Simon Brander
With a career in senior management and electrical engineering, Simon took on his first manager role in 1992 and was promoted to his first director position in 2003. Simon co-founded MEL with Andy in 2016.
His interest in engineering dates back to his childhood, and he has encouraged the MEL team to adopt the same mindset: a natural curiosity that helps find practical solutions to complex problems.
He continues to lead the design processes at MEL, extending his scope of work to include not just resilient power distribution and process controls but also MEL’s business operations.
The personal pride he takes in designing efficient, reliable and safe engineering solutions is an ethos he has also built into MEL’s organisational culture.

Andy Collins
Andy’s journey began with a hands-on apprenticeship, during which he developed a strong foundation in electrical work and a genuine passion for the industry. Eager to grow, he went on to complete the City & Guilds Design & Verification 2400 course and took up a role as an estimator with his employer.
He not only honed his technical and commercial skills but also became closely involved in business development and contract management.
In 2016, Andy teamed up with his longtime friend and mentor, Simon, to launch MEL. Andy genuinely enjoys meeting people, understanding what matters to them, and finding practical ways to make things happen. That down-to-earth, solutions-focused mindset has helped MEL grow into a trusted partner to major clients.
